Does my domain name matter to search engines?

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

We get asked this question all the time, so do you think search engines will read your domain name? Is it important to pick a name for SEO (Search Engine Optimization)?

The quick answer is : YES! Although it’s not the single most important factor, because people are increasingly using browser bookmarks and subscription tools like RSS feeds. But that’s not all, here are some other important tips to remember and is the old-school way of thinking about domains:

  • is short
  • is easy to remember
  • is easy to spell
  • is descriptive or brand-able
  • does not contain hyphens and numbers
  • recommended a .com extension

The biggest flaw on the argument of people that don’t think that domains play an important role on the success of websites lies on the assumption that web surfers will bookmark or subscribe to a given website right after visiting it.

That is not the case. Most people need to come across a website several times before making the decision to bookmark it or to subscribe to its service, an interesting fact is the average person needs to see an ad/product at least 30 times before purchasing.

On the first visit they will come to that site via a link on another website or on a search engine. The domain name, however, will play an important role on the subsequent visits. If it is short, easy to remember and easy to spell, a visitor will not have a problem going back to that site in the future. If the domain is very long, hard to remember and hard to spell, however, there are great chances that the visitor will end up somewhere else, and will probably never return.

*remember: Your website is the first impression, what is your design telling customers?

Keeping it Cool

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

We will be down for maintenance at our data-center for a short while today while we roll-out new cooling systems. The servers must always have power, and they must always be kept cool. It’s simple, really…

A well designed data center can handle a multitude of issues, from an interruption in power by the utility company, to a broken air conditioning unit, to a major storm. So we are taking proper maintenance practices for the data center to run smoothly and without interruption.

Thanks for your understanding, if you have any questions let us know! 303-503-8612 or contact us today!

Incantrix is rolling out IPv6 with our Network

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

If you haven’t already heard the internet is quickly running out of IP Addresses. A solution to this problem has been under deliberation for years on how many IPs should  be added and when it will be required for the internet to use the new standard.

You may rest assured that if you are hosting your websites at Incantrix we have already begun the process to switch to the new IPv6 standard up from IPv4 (ex: 192.168.1.1) which allowed 4,294,967,296 IP addresses when this was decided back in 1980, of course at the time programmers/engineers thought this would be more than enough for thousands of computer networks in the world.
With the recent exploding market of smart phones there has been a need to have the new standard of IPv6 sooner than expected; in February 2010, the International Telecommunications Union announced that the number of cell phones worldwide is now over 4.6 billion with “smart phones” . These are phones that require a unique IP address. Smart phone usage is growing by thousands every month; in the first half of 2010 vendors shipped a total of 119.4 MILLION smart phones, an increase of 55.5% over the first half of 2009.

So when the rollout of IPv6 is complete there will be just about 340,282,366,920,938,463,463,374,607,431,768,211,456 IP addresses. Gosh, this should get us where we want to be. :)

We are live!

We would love to hear your comments and suggestions on how we are doing and what you think about our new design; you may do so by clicking on the “comment” link below or send us a message!
